Library Media Clerk

Job Description

 

Purpose:                     The Library Media Clerk helps students and teachers make the best use of the books, materials, and services of the School Media Center.

                                    To accomplish these tasks, the Library Media Clerk must work closely with the students, staff and administration of USD 434.

 

Responsible to:          School Administration

 

Duty Year:                 School Year + 2 extra duty days (one before and one after the student school calendar)

                                   

Payment rate:            According to Classified Salary Schedule.

 

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made)
  3. Communication skills to work effectively with staff, students, and parents
  4. Desire to continue career improvement

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in helping students and teachers make the best use of the books, materials, and services of the media center
  2. Ability to work without direct supervision
  3. Provide/manage literature experiences for up to 25 students at a time in grades 6-8
  4. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines
  5. Communicate effectively with members of the school staff
  6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
  7. Become knowledgeable about operating technology equipment
  8. Maintain confidentiality at all times
  9. Support the philosophy and mission of USD 434

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:        

  1. Prolonged sitting or standing
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, not to exceed 25 lbs without assistance
  3. Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
  4. May work in an environment with varied activities for a diverse student population

 

 

 

 

Essential Library Functions:

  1. Maintain assigned records involved in effective circulation of all media center materials and AV and technology equipment, including systematic procedures concerning overdue materials
  2. Shelve incoming materials
  3. Assist students in acquiring library skills
  4. Responsible for general office work such as composing requisitions, reports, forms, inventories, letters, teaching materials, and file maintenance
  5. Duplicate, assemble, distribute materials, and other duties as assigned by school administration
  6. Plan, coordinate, and carryout two book fairs; one each semester
  7. Actively supervise hallway traffic near the media center
  8. Supervise students in the media center
  9. Assist in the annual inventory of media center
  10. Maintain supply inventory
  11. Design and create bulletin boards and other media center displays
  12. Operate equipment as requested by school administrators
  13. Maintain distribution records in computer system
  14. Assist students and teachers in locating and checking out requested information

 

General Responsibilities

 

  1. Follow USD 434 district policies, the school handbook, and the staff handbook
  2. Other duties as assigned by school administrators
